As a recruitment consultant I am always being asked : What is a good question to ask?
There is a good reason for this. There is nothing worse when you are an employer than a one way interview. If the employer is not asked any questions, he assumes that the candidate is either not interested or worse still, not there (hung over or something).
I have attached what I think are the top ten questions.
Are there any doubts or reasons you can think of that may prevent me getting this job (This is the last question but probably the most important. It gives you a chance to listen to the interviewers thoughts and sell around any obstacles)
What are the top three qualities an employee needs to be successful in this job?
What would I do during a typical workday?
What is a typical career path from this job in say 5 years and 15 years?
What are some of the goals and challenges your group is likely to face in the next year?
How would my job performance be evaluated?
What are some of the things that you like about working for this company?
Who would I work with?
How could I do a better job than the last person? What could be improved on and what did they do well?
What are the next steps?
Do not fall into the traps and ask what the salary will be, what the working hours are or if you wil receive training. Already you are being problematic. Only do that if you are a specialist, difficult to find and very secure in your application.
If anyone would like to add any, please feel fee.
